Tony Robbins likens taking control of your thoughts with going on a “Mental Diet”. It is an opportunity to eliminate the negative and destructive patterns of thinking and feeling that inevitably come from living life in an emotionally reactionary and mentally undisciplined fashion. This is when you decide on a set period of time (let’s say 14 days) to take conscious control of your thoughts, in other words, spending 14 days without holding a negative thought. This works as a mental detox where you give yourself the opportunity to cleanse your mental system.
Are you ready to take on the challenge?
Here’s the 4 basic rules
- During the next 14 days, refuse to dwell on any unresourceful thoughts or feelings.
- When you catch yourself beginning to focus on the negative, redirect your focus toward a better emotional state. (Want to know how? Drop us a mail at firstname.lastname@example.org to receive some practical tips)
- For the next 14 days make sure that your entire focus is on finding solutions. Avoid focussing on the problem by directing your focus and energy on the solutions. (Want to know how? Mail us at email@example.com for additional tips on asking more empowering questions)
- If you ‘fall off the bus’ – that is, if you do catch yourself indulging in or dwelling on an unresourceful thought or feeling – don’t beat yourself up. There is no Problem with this as long as you direct your thoughts immediately. So how long is dwelling? The moment you spend more than 3 minutes entertaining negative thoughts, focussing on the problem or living in an unresourceful/negative state.
(Should you find yourself dwelling in an unresourceful state, for more than 3 minutes, you should immediately restart the 14 day challenge. Remember it must be consecutive days)
